while i find the prospect of a new party appealing, the speech by JBJ appears to position his proposed 'Reform Party' further upon the spectrum of binary opposition to the PAP than the SDP.

yes it is difficult to pursue political discussions and agendas without the inclusion of PAP policies and actions but to constantly display your raison d'etre as an antithesis to the PAP and their doctrine reeks of revenge, hatred, vengeance - none of which i find admirable in a party seeking political rebirth for Singapore. It also paradoxically binds your party, at least ideologically, to the PAP.

until there is a party that can establish its independence beyond contrary pessimism and rejection of the status quo, i'm sorry but there really is no viable alternative for me.

The new reform party should consider not being institutional but in being relational. I think there are many who are very disillusioned with the institutional approach of the ruling party in Singapore. Almost all opposition parties try to emulate the ruling parties institutional style, but fall flat badly, as they do not have the resources of the ruling party. If the reform party were to break away from this mindset and subscribe to the relational, it will bring about a refreshing change in the lives of many in Singapore.

his party has shown no activity, probably would only stir when there is another election, at which point the number and calibre of candidates it manages to gather could be compared with those of other opposition parties

JBJ's new party to contest next elections
If and when iconic politician J.B. Jeyaretnam's yet-to-be-formed Reform Party comes into being, he will contest the next elections.
The party today announced that it has submitted an application to be registered.

Heralding plans for change, the 82-year-old opposition stalwart said his priority is to empower the people and eradicate poverty.
