Singapore's report card on workplace safety has just been released, revealing the following numbers: 63 workers died on the job last year. Most were in construction or manufacturing. 10,018 were injured - that's 27 every day, on average. 163 of the injured suffered permanent disability, mostly loss of fingers and hands - data reported in the Straits Times. At a briefing yesterday, Mr Heng Chiang Gnee, deputy chairman of the upcoming Workplace Safety and Health Council, said demolition works and crane operations will be scrutinised closely this year under a scheme called Probe – standing for Programme-Based Engagement.
